He wasn’t anything to write home about, very inefficient, and very walky. You can’t give up 4 walks, but in fairness, he was getting squeezed, and it smells like a fluke more than anything. The positive was that the 3ks pretty much balanced out the walks. As the walks go down, his results will get better.
Meanwhile, Cano and Melky continue to piss me off. Farnsworth, Hawkins and Veras are abysmal. I was high on a Farnsworth resurgance, and it looks like I was dead wrong. I was also big on Veras, but he has arguably worse command than Farnsworth. Hawkins is just emminently hittable.
Giambi is second on the team in OPS to A-Rod, and I will continue to trumpet Giambi’s success because of all those who thought he was done.

Cano and Melky hit when the team hits. If you are looking for them to be on the same level with Jeter/Arod/Giambi/Damon/Matsui/Posada, you’re always going to be pissed off. Cano and Melky underperform when they see themselves in the mindset of “if I don’t get a hit here, the team is going to keep losing.”
As for the pitching, it is what it is. It will get better because Mo is in the bullpen and I think in 20 years people will see him as one of the greatest coaches in the game. I say this because everything I know about Farnsworth tells me he probably doesn’t listen too well. And look, he’s been messing with a cutter — good enough to throw it a few times this year — and he is learning how to pitch which I think accounts for his episodic success.
I’m reconciled to this being a rebuilding year but by October a lot could be different, so secretly I believe we can still take it all. Give me a Yankee team that goes into the playoffs hot — all the rest of this is foreplay.
